Hi Cat! Thanks for reading and thanks for your comment :) that’s a good point actually. The reason the Stone had been neglected for centuries is because the content of the stone itself is not of great significance. The stone only bears a decree that established the rule of Ptolemy V shortly after his coronation - nothing out of the ordinary.


However, as the stone was deciphered and the Ancient Egyptian language was decided, the importance of the stone obviously grew and it is now considered to be one of the most important pieces of modern archeology.

Whilst it is true that the stone was found by a Frenchman and deciphered by a Frenchman and an Englishman, I don’t believe that the work of 3 men alone should usurp the claim of an entire nation of Egyptians whose ancient history and culture was unlocked with the discovery of the Rosetta Stone.
